We recently watched the Avengers collection of movies with the girls. Gianna was hearing all kinds of hype from her friends about End Game and was pushing hard to watch it. I actually like superhero movies and Vince is a total nerd about that stuff so we were 100% game to make it happen. Can’t just come in and start with the last movie in the series though. That’s something psychopaths do. Like reading the end of the book first. What kind of human does that?

So we started with the first Avengers movie and worked our way to End Game.

What seemed like decades later (these movies are really fucking long), we are finally ready to watch Avengers: End Game. It’s nearing the end of the movie and the epic final battle scene begins. Captain Marvel comes in. She is a bad ass alien/woman superhero with unrivaled powers. She’s seriously more powerful than all the other Avengers and could clean house and end this shit like 3 movies ago. But the writers didn’t think that would be good story-telling to have her swoop in and save the day so easily. Gotta make money of course. Because of this, her involvement in the battle was pretty non-existent. Until this point.

Seriously, don't fuck with her. //pride.com

To simplify things, basically Marvel says to the other Avengers that she is going to go take care of the bad guy. But, Spiderman says to her “Just you?” Like he can’t believe she can do it alone.

Uh, yeah you DICK. Just her. She’s 100 times more powerful than you and all the other Avengers put together. Why do you seem so befuddled that this bass ass chick is going to take care of business? All you can do is shoot webs out your hands and climb buildings. Whoopdee-fucking-doo.

But, here it comes.

The obligatory girl power moment….

All the female superheroes line up behind her and say “No, she’s got help.”

For the love of God.

It’s these obligatory girl power moments that make me cringe. They are blatantly forced and contradict the fundamental character traits of the people in the story. Marvel is STRONG. She doesn’t need fucking backup. Did Iron Man get back up? Captain America? Thor? Why do you feel obligated to make all the other female superheroes flock together at that moment? Like some magnet attracted all the vaginas together while an end-of-the-world battle occurs all around them. Just so they could have a female united moment?

Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for showing strong female characters who are straight-up bad asses. Women like Wonder Woman who walked through a battlefield taking on bullets like the fucking tank that she is. Girls need to see that women are not weak princesses needing rescued all the time.

As a whole, I love strong female role models. It’s the moments that come out of left field that bother me. Lately, it’s like movies are forcing that narrative instead of letting it flow naturally based on the story and the characters. Like there’s some quota in the movie making business that you need to meet in order to release a movie.

Crying scene? Check.

Death scene? Check.

Girl power scene? Check.

Marvel didn’t need help. Her power and ability didn’t need to be questioned. And having all the women line up behind her was just so forced. Me and Vince both looked at each other at the same time and rolled our eyes. Ah, married couples are so cool with that shit. It’s like we have the same brain sometimes.

Listen, a woman can be strong and capable without 20 other women around. I mean, yay….girl power and all that stuff. But when it’s forced and when it’s clearly weakening the person who took a position of strength, it pisses me off.

My girls have back up if they need it to fight battles they can’t fight on their own. But, if they are equipped to take care of shit on their own, I am not sending in the cavalry. You got this? Then get it, girl.

This is spot on! The writers probably patted themselves on the back for not having the men line up to help which is great but to your point why should a strong powerful superhuman need any backup just because she’s a woman. And I can’t stop laughing… a magnet attracting vaginas. Hahaha <3
